What is Advertising?

Advertising is a paid form of public presentation and expressive promotion of ideas. It is a pervasive and impersonal medium aimed at the public masses. In order for advertising to be considered good, it must be able to attract attention, stimulate interest, create a desire, and bring about action.

The objective of advertising can be explained in three sentences: Introduce new and unknown goods/services, maintain demand for well-known goods/services, and increase demand for well-known goods/services. 

There are seven steps to successful advertising:

  • Market research
  • Setting out aims
  • Budgeting
  • Choice of media
  • Design and wording
  • Coordination
  • Test results
